New Delhi: The Srikrishna Committee,
examining the demand for Telangana and the protests against
the separate statehood movement, will submit its report to the
Centre by the end of the year and will not seek any extension.
The five-member committee, headed by former Supreme
Court judge Justice B N Srikrishna, has completed its visit to
Andhra Pradesh and the consultation with all stake holders.
Home Ministry sources said the committee is now
preparing the report and will submit it within the stipulated
time of December 31.
The committee will not require any extension of the
tenure, they said.
Member-secretary of the committee V K Duggal today met
Home Minister P Chidambaram and is understood to have briefed
him about the progress of their task.
The Srikrishna Committee was constituted on February 3
following unrest in Andhra Pradesh over the demand for a
separate Telangana state and counter-protests against the
move.
The mandate of the committee include wide-ranging
consultations with all sections of the people and all
political parties and groups in Andhra Pradesh on the
Telangana issue.
Apart from Justice Srikrishna and former Home
Secretary Duggal, other members of the committee are Ranbir
Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University,
Abusaleh Shariff, Senior Research Fellow, International Food
Policy Research Institute, Delhi, and Ravinder Kaur, a Delhi
IIT Professor.
