Amid speculation over a possible merger or alliance of Telangana Rashtra Samithi with Congress, TRS on Monday said the party would be guided by the interests of the people of Telangana.

Hyderabad: Amid speculation over a possible merger or alliance of Telangana Rashtra Samithi with Congress, TRS on Monday said the party would be guided by the interests of the people of Telangana.

"We have met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and President Pranab Mukherjee to thank them (for the passage of Telangana bill in Parliament). We will meet BJP president Rajnath Singh and others too. We gave a charter of demands to her (Sonia Gandhi) for the development of Telangana," K T Rama Rao, party MLA and son of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao here said.

Any decision would be taken in consultation with TRS leaders, he said.

Asked about talks between Congress and TRS, he said that the interests of the people of Telangana are paramount for the party.

"We know elections are around the corner. We will have to take a call about where we are headed. No individual decisions can be taken. We will meet our MLAs, leaders and others, by probably next week. Whatever is in the interest of the people, we will do," he said.
The TRS president met Sonia Gandhi, along with his family members, yesterday. He also held talks with AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh over a possible merger or an alliance between the two parties.
