Kadapa (AP): Already in midst of the Telangana muddle, Congress on Friday faced further embarrassment when 20 rebel MLAs, two MPs amd six MLCs attended the inauguaral meet of the outfit launched by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy where his mother attacked Sonia Gandhi.

At the first plenary of the Jagan Mohan-led YSR Congress Party at Idupulapaya, the private estate of the Reddy family, in Kadapa district, the son of YSR made no bones about taking the Congress head on.

Lashing out at Gandhi, Jagan's mother and MLA Y S Vijayalakshmi said they had to leave Congress after the party chief declined permission for them to hold the 'odarpu yatra'.

"Jagan and I had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi to seek her permission for 'odarpu yatra'. We told her about the need to continue it. But she did not accede to our request and spoke in such a way that hurt me. We had to leave Congress," said Vijayalakshmi, the honorary president of YSR Congress.

Alleging that Congress tried to split the YSR family for political gains, she said she and her son had to quit the party due to unavoidable circumstances.

The Congress high command tried to lower the image of YSR and downplay the schemes launched by him, she alleged adding it was YSR who had single-handedly brought the Congress back to power in the 2009 elections.

The two MPs who attended the convention were Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy (Nellore) and Sabbam Hari (Anakapalle).

The MLAs present were Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Konda Surekha, Siva Prasad Reddy, G.Srikanth Reddy, A.Amaranatha Reddy, Adinarayana Reddy, Mekapati Chandra Sekhar Reddy, Sesha Reddy, Dharmana Krishna Prasad, Chandra Sekhar reddy, Balaraju, Prasad Raju, Golla Babu Rao, Srinivasulu, Gurunatha Reddy, Kapu Ramachandra Reddy, Kunju Satyavathi, Golla Barthi and Sobha Nagi Reddy.

MLCs Pulla Padmavati, Konda Murali, Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, Desai Thippa Reddy, M Seshu Babu and Devagudi Narayana Reddy too were present.

Congress is already facing a crisis in Andhra with its MPs and MLAs from Telangana submitting their resignations pressing for a separate Telangana state.

In the speech late this evening, Jagan also announced that his party would shut down all illegal liquor outlets in the state to protect poor families, particularly the women.

The 104 health scheme would be extended to every mandal, he said.

The YSR Congress president lambasted the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh for neglecting several sectors such as health, agriculture, irrigation, housing, and issues like pensions, fee reimbursement, etc.

He alleged that the government had failed to keep the election promise of increasing the rice quota from 20 kgs to 30 kgs.

As many as 20 MLAs, two MPs -- Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy of Nellore and Sabbam Hari of Anakapalle -- and six MLCs attended the plenary today.

Speaking earlier during the convention, Jagan's mother and MLA Y S Vijayalakshmi blamed Congress President Sonia Gandhi for their decision to quit the party.

"Jagan and I had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi to seek her permission for 'odarpu yatra'. We told her about the need to continue it. But she did not accede to our request and spoke in such a way that hurt me. We had to leave Congress," she said, alleging that Congress high command tried to lower the image of YSR and downplay the schemes launched by him.
