Ongole (AP): Late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has a permanent place in the hearts of people as he implemented innovative welfare schemes for them, his son and Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Thursday.

"Rajasekhara Reddy has found a permanent place in the hearts of the people due to innovative welfare schemes like loans at three per cent interest, free power, old age pensions," he said.

The 37-year-old Kadapa MP was speaking during his ongoing 'Odarpu (consolation) yatra' in Prakasam district.

Police scaled up the security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident or clash as Jagan's supporters alleged that Congress MLA from Chirala A Krishna Mohan opposed the installation of YSR's statues in the region.

The supporters of Jagan alleged that authorities prevented installing the statues at various places, citing lack of permission, under pressure from Mohan.

Jagan has been unveiling the statues of YSR at every village or town during his tour undertaken to meet families of those who died of shock after the death of his father in a helicopter crash last year.

Despite Congress high command's reservations, Jagan resumed the yatra on September 3, a day after the first death anniversary of his father. The party, however, indicated that it may not take any action against him for now.
