New Delhi: Petrol pumps in the capital city halted work on Friday even as diesel prices in the neighbouring states of Harayana and Uttar Pradesh were slashed.

In Harayana, the price of diesel has been cut by Rs 3.88 where as in UP it will be cut by 68p.

Petrol pumps owners in Delhi are protesting the hike in VAT rates from the current 12.5% to 20%. The strike began 6am this morning.

Petrol pump owners contend that the sales of diesel have dipped close to 40%, with motorists choosing Noida, Faridabad or Guragaon in the national capital region over Delhi to get a fill.

On April 9th last month, the pump owners had called off their strike, following the assurance of Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit that their grievances will be addressed within 15 days.
