Rahul Gandhi arrives in Mumbai, Sena activists detained Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived here on Friday amidst tight security following Shiv Sena's call for black flag demonstrations against him for his "Mumbai for all Indians" remark even as three Sena activists were detained after they tried to enter his itinerary venue.

Sena corporator, Rajul Patel, wearing a black sari, and two others were picked up while trying to make way into the Bhaidas Hall in suburban Vile Parle without proper invite, police said.

Police are also maintaining a strict vigil at the venue in Ghatkopar where 39-year-old Rahul is scheduled to visit later in the day and have sanitised both the venues and adjoining areas.

Shops in both the areas remained closed, police said, adding several trouble makers were detained last night as a preventive measure.

This is Rahul's maiden visit to the financial capital after he became the AICC General Secretary.

Hundreds of policemen are keeping vigil at the Vile Parle railway station, bus stops and the road leading to the venue. The entire road leading to the venue and across the city was dotted with posters that read - 'Fight an election, become a leader.'

Gandhi will be addressing "selected" college students at the Bhaidas Hall where a function has been organised by the Youth Congress.

After the meeting, Rahul will head to Ramabai Nagar colony in suburban Ghatkopar to interact with the slum youth.

Among those detained were some parliamentary district chiefs of the Sena, a few 'shakha' (local units) chiefs and other activists.

In the afternoon, Rahul will go to Ghatkopar, the north-eastern part of Mumbai where the Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar slums are located.

He will garland a statue of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Ambedkar there, pay homage and then interact with select slum youth.

The spokesman said both the meetings were organised keeping in mind Gandhi's desire to meet youth and students from different strata of society.

The Mumbai Police have made tight security arrangements during Gandhi's half-day visit to Mumbai to ensure it passes off peacefully.

I agree with Ruturaj, BBSR. When ppl of India are facing high price rise of essential commodities, this elderly lad is trying to ripe crop of politics. Better, he shud search a job of clerk in an office. He shud keep himself busy in some creative work. If he is really concerned abt unity of India, he should fight for abolition of Section 370 in J&K which given special status to anti-national forces. If every Indian has right to move, stay and work anywhere in India, then why Hindus are desprived to stay safely in their homes in J&K.

What good is leaving on time when it means never arrving the destination? After Rahul Gandhi`s visit all will be as usual. Sena sena activists will be back on business in hurling abuses and indulging gooda activity to remain in news. In my view the sena`s trio should be put behind the bars and their rottton mougthpiece should be banned forever as there is no scope of yellow journalism in Indian growing democracy. They are the killers of Mahatama Gandhi, and under raising of bogey of patroism under the cover of caste politics can in no way exonerate them from the lable of criminal mind set.Quite astonishing is that they weild more power without being in power. I request Dr. Man Mohan Singh to teach these criminals a lesson of that magnitude that no Sharukhkhan or any Indian is taken to task by their goonda force.

Why is Rahul Gandhi given so much of importance by the media. Who is he anyway. The media is projecting him as a leader when the fact of the matter is that he is no way close to one. There are more important things plaguing the minds of the common man like price rise and terrorism.

Rahul Gandhi to step in tiger`s den. This your interpretation. I would like to comment on the matter. So you are agreeing Maharastra is tiger`s den and say Rahul a brave hearted man to get into the their den. It is not like that what you are trying to say. You are just following Rahul to promote him. When in India like many important things are happening you want to spend less and show the face of Rahul always in order to promote. However, you are free to do this as media. Where you are leaving behind common issue of different states and people of India. As a common man I am sorry to see your TV and related things.
