Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Sunday asserted that the party's stand on infiltration from Bangladesh was clear and there was no difference of opinion among top leaders on the issue.

"There is no contradiction as reported by the media between the recent statements made by AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and chief minister Tarun Gogoi on the matter", APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita told reporters here.

While Singh had stated that both Hindus and Muslims who had migrated into the country from Bangladesh after the cut-off year 1971 have to be treated as infiltrators and hence deported, Gogoi said the Hindus were to be considered as refugees because they had to flee the country in difficult circumstances.

"Singh made the statement on legal perspective that the cut-off year was 1971 and all migrants have to leave after that. But Gogoi aired his views which was an answer to a query made by reporters in Cachar district on humanitarian grounds. There is no contradiction in the two statements", he said.
