Assam Assembly Elections 2016: BJP CM candidate Sarbananda Sonowal a 'migratory bird', says Tarun Gogoi

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday described BJP's chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal as a "migratory bird" for Majuli from where he is contesting for the first time.

Majuli: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday described BJP's chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal as a "migratory bird" for Majuli from where he is contesting for the first time.

At an election campaign rally here, Gogoi said Sonowal was "a migratory bird for the people of Majuli who is jumping from here to there. When he is the son of Dibrugarh, Sarbananda migrated to Lakhimpur for the Lok Sabha poll. Then from there he is again migrating to Majuli (island) now. It is amusing to see his power hungry politics".

He said since Congress came to power in Assam in 2001, several anti-erosion projects were taken up, road connectivity within the island along with dykes were done for Majuli under the guidance of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He also took credit for his government completing the long-pending Upper and Lower Majuli bridge which foundation stone was laid by his predecessor Prafulla Kumar Mahanta of the AGP.
