Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was gang-raped by five boys in Assam on Sunday. All the accused aged between 12 to 16 years are said to be victim’s neighbours.
The shameful incident happened when the girl was playing with the accused, following which she was drugged and taken to a nearby house where she was allegedly raped all night.
The victim was found by her parents the next day. Medical examination has confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted.
All the five boys have been taken into custody and will be produced in the Juvenile Court tomorrow, police said, adding, the girl after medical examination was now in the State Home for Women for her rehabilitation.
Recently there has been a huge debate over the demand of changing the Juvenile Justice Act, after the lone minor accused in the December 16, 2012 gang-rape was sentenced to three-year stay in a reform home.
The minor accused along with five other men gang-raped the girl in the moving bus and then threw both of them out - without clothes - on the streets in the cold December night.
Police said that apart from sexually assaulting the 23-year-old woman, the minor also ripped out her internal organs with a rod. The girl died 13 days later in a Singapore hospital, where she was flown for treatment.
