Assam: Two killed, 24 injured in road mishap

Jorhat: Two persons were killed and 24 others, mostly pilgrims, injured when a van skidded off the road and hit a tree in Assam`s Jorhat district Monday, police said.
The driver of the speeding vehicle, carrying pilgrims to the historic Shiva Dol in Sibsagar from Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district, lost control and skidded off the road at Badulipukhuri under Teok police station.

The dead have been identified as Madan Mahato and Bhola Mahato.
The injured were admitted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital where the condition of nine persons was stated to be "very critical", the police said.
