Bandhs affect normal life in Assam

Normal life got affected in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Dhubri and North Cachar Hills districts of Assam following bandhs.

Haflong/Kokrajhar: Normal life got
affected in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Dhubri
and North Cachar Hills districts of Assam on Monday following
bandhs called by different organisations.

Shops, markets, business establishments, private
offices, banks and educational institutions remained closed in
the affected districts, official sources said.

As vehicles kept off the roads, including the national
highways, trains ran as usual in all the districts.

In N C Hills district a 12-hour bandh was called from
5 am today by the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC)
demanding immediate release of its scam-tainted jailed leader
and former Chief Executive Member of the N C Hills Autonomous
council, Mohit Hojai.

The ASDC bandh was also supported by the Dimasa
Students` Union, Dimasa Women`s Society and other
organisations.

In the lower Assam district of Kokrajhar and the
Rajbangshi ethnic community-dominated areas of its adjoining
districts, a 12-hour `Assam Bandh` called by the All Koch
Rajbangshi Students Union also hit normal life.

The AKRSU called the bandh demanding creation of a
separate `Kamatapur` state carved out of Assam.
