Security forces in Assam have reportedly arrested five militants in the state's Udalguri District in the last thirty six hours.

Guwahati: Security forces in Assam have reportedly arrested five militants in the state's Udalguri District in the last thirty six hours.

Inspector General of Police, LR Bishnoi was quoted by local media, as saying that a joint team of the army and Assam Police has apprehended four cadres of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland ( Sangbijit Group ) and one militant of Rabha National Liberation Army from Murabari area.

Bishnoi further revealed that arrested militants were involved in several extortion and kidnapping cases in the Baksa and Udalguri District of the state.

He also confirmed the recovery of arms and cash from the militants.

Meanwhile, a top leader and five other hardcore cadres of the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) surrendered before the police in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district.

The cadre surrendered at a ceremony in Tura. The surrendered cadre will be kept in Meghalaya police battalion for three days.

Superintendent of Police Mukesh Singh said that a rehabilitation package will be worked out for them to lead normal lives.
