Guwahati: Election observers, appointed
by Election Commission of India, will verify the statement of
expenditure prepared by candidates which was submitted after
the recently held Assam assembly poll.
"It is mandatory for every candidates, whether winners
or losers, to submit the statement of expenditure during
election within a month of the declaration of the result",
state`s additional chief electoral officer M Sahu said on Thursday.
Since the results of the assembly poll was declared on
April 13, the candidates have submitted the statements (of
expenditure) which will be verified by the election observers,
"Accordingly the observers will fan out to every
district on June 15 and 16 next to cross-check the documents
submitted by the poll candidates and ensure it tallies with
the details of their poll related expenditures," Sahu said.
Stating that this process was "routine", Sahu said
this step was only to ensure that the candidates spend the
money they are permitted to use during campaigning.
