Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday said Modi wave in the country was "on the wane" as BJP had failed to get a simple majority in Maharashtra and just barely managed to cross the half-way mark in Haryana in the just concluded Assembly polls in the two states.

"In spite of hectic election campaigning by Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and other BJP leaders, the party just managed to cross the half-way mark in Haryana. In Maharashtra, the BJP did not get a simple majority," Gogoi tweeted.

"Is it a wave? Or is the wave on the wane?" he asked.

The BJP secured 47 of the 90 assembly seats in Haryana and 122 of the 288 seats in Maharashtra, wresting power from the Congress in both the states.
