Guwahati: The Assam government on Monday announced plans of launching a Rs 1000 crore anti-poverty scheme.

Announcing this at a function held here on the occasion of the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi which is observed as Sankalpa Divas, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said Rs 1000 crore will be set aside in the next four years for the scheme which will benefit the rural poor.

In order to tackle the problem of militancy, the chief minister mooted the idea of introducing a police commissionerate system in Guwahati city.

He asked the state chief secretary to finalise a detailed report in this regard.

Expressing displeasure in the delay in launching CCTV system in the city, Gogoi asked the chief secretary to make a report citing causes of the delay.

He also announced that a grievance cell will be introducted in the state home department to effectively tackle the militancy problem.
