Guwahati: Assam Government will soon adopt a land policy for the state incorporating various issues relating to land settlement to landless people, poor marginalized section and those affected by floods and erosion.

In a statement here on Saturday, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said a committee would be formed to frame the policy by going into the gamut of issues relating to the land policy.

Pointing that the Government has all along been working for the interest of the indigenous people, the poor and marginalized segments of the society, he said, foreigners would not be allowed to acquire land deed at the expense of the indigenous people.

Gogoi dared BJP to come with the list of 'dubious citizens' who have been living in Guwahati, as alleged by the party.

A demonstration led by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) demanding grant of land deeds to those encroaching on government land in Dispur on Wednesday turned violent and three persons were killed and 50 others injured.
