Mahesh Bhatt campaigns for Congress in Assam

Noted film director Mahesh Bhatt jumped into the Assam poll campaign and ppealed to the minorities to put their weight behind the Congress.

Guwahati: Noted film director Mahesh Bhatt on Sunday jumped into the Assam poll campaign and appealed to the
minorities to put their weight behind the Congress.

"Because of its history and its human resources the
Congress has the depth and base to solve the problems of the
minorities problems of the 21st century suited to a particular
state," asserted Bhatt talking to the media here.
On allegations about the Congress using the minority
community as a vote bank, he said, "Congress president Sonia
Gandhi has fought for the welfare of the minorities. When
Sonia is in the helm of affairs of the Congress, she will do
something for the minorities."

"I support the core idea of Congress and not what it has
failed to keep. The UPA government constituted the Sachar
Committee and is stepping up community welfare measures,"
Bhatt added.
Reminded that he had earlier campaigned in Assam for the
NCP and AUDF but now for the Congress, Bhatt said, "I have
decided to put my weight behind a political party whose core
idea to keep the nation going is something I support. I
endorse the ideology".
