Goalpara: The flood situation in Assam has remained unchanged for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, with nine bodies being recovered so far from the Goalpara district.

The Army has been deployed for the rescue and relief operations in addition to squads from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

"Over one thousand people have been rescued so far and just a few people are now left to be rescued in Goalpara," said Goalpara Deputy Commissioner, Preetom Saikia.

Around 1,200 marooned people have been shifted to safer places in the Kamrup district, while the rescue operations are on in Kamrup and Morigaon districts.

At least 415 villages in 12 districts are reeling under the fury of floods.

The continuous downpour since Saturday has also flooded the main roads and various other parts of Guwahati, leading to the closure of schools and colleges.
