Guwahati: One person was killed and
another critically injured in an attack by a group of four
motorcycle borne miscreants in Assam`s Bongaigaon district,
police said on Friday.
A group of four youths came on two motorcycles and
shot at two traders in the market place of Jogighopa last
night, with one of them succumbing to his injuries on way to
hospital while the other person was in a critical condition.
Angry residents of the town blocked National Highway
31 in protest against the incident and disrupted traffic for
more than six hours today.
The blockade was lifted after the district
administration agreed to pay a compensation of Rs. five lakh to
the next of kin of the person killed and ordered an inquiry
into the incident.
The police has launched a massive search operation to
nab the assailants and has arrested a person in this
connection.
The slain person has been identified as Harajit Kalita
and the critically injured as Khanin Kalita.
