PM urged to have more ministers from Assam

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been urged by Assam government to induct more MPs from the state in the Union Cabinet during the upcoming reshuffle of his ministry.

state in the Union Cabinet during the upcoming reshuffle of
his ministry.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said he had sent a
representation to the Prime Minister for inclusion of MPs from
Assam in the Cabinet.

"I am hopeful there will be more ministers from Assam
in the Union Cabinet this time," Gogoi said.

Assam has two MPs in the Union Cabinet -- the Prime
Minister himself and DONER Minister Bijoy Krishna Handique.

Singh is one of the seven MPs from here in the Rajya
Sabha and Handique among 14 Lok Sabha MPs.
Vacancies have been created in the Railways after
Mamata Banerjee became West Bengal chief minister in May and
in Textiles after the resignation of Dayanidhi Maran in the
wake of the 2G scam. A number of ministers are also holding
more than one portfolios.
