Six NE militant outfits call I-Day boycott and general strike

Six militant outfits of the North East, including the ULFA (Independent), have decided to call a general strike and boycott the Independence Day.

Guwahati: Six militant outfits of the North East, including the ULFA (Independent), have decided to call a general strike and boycott the Independence Day.

The militant outfits as a mark of protest have decided to boycott the Independence Day. They have also called for the general strike on that day beginning from 1:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Besides the ULFA(I), the other militant outfits are Coordination Committee (CorCom) Manipur`s six parties, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) and National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT), according to a joint statement.

However, essential services, emergency measures, media and religious activities are exempted from the purview of the general strike, the statement added.
