Kokrajhar: Members of several student organisations on Wednesday pelted stones at the Up Kamrup Express in Assam`s Kokrajhar district and attacked Northeast
Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union delegates returning from Kolkata.
The students stopped the train at Fakiragram station and pelted stones damaging five bogies and attacked the union members travelling in it, but they managed to escape without any being injured, official sources said.
The students organisations alleged that members attending the union meeting did not take the initiative to ensure the setting up of certain banking facilities in NF Railway headquarters in Maligaon, but instead supported a resolution by which the facilities would be set up in Kolkata.
The train was detained for more than an hour with the police rushing to the spot and bringing the situation under control, the sources said.
The protestors belonged to the All Assam Students` Union (AASU), All Bodoland Minority Students` Union (ABMSU), All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students` Union among others.
