Guwahati: The anti-talk faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the grenade attack at a police station in Assam's Sibsagar district ahead of the outfit's foundation day on April 7.

In an email to media houses ULFA central publicity committee member Joy Asom said the attack last night was in protest against killing of its members by the police.

He alleged that the police were torturing innocent civilians to extract information about ULFA.

Militants had last night lobbed a grenade and damaged a portion of Demow police station in Sibsagar. However, none was injured and the militants escaped after blasting the grenade.

Police and security forces in Assam are on alert ahead of the ULFA foundation day.
