Patna: The Congress on Thursday drew solace from 53 per cent voters' turn out in the polling held for 47 assembly seats in the first phase and claimed that the party would do exceedingly well in the ongoing polls in Bihar.

"We are enthused with high turnout at 53 per cent and hope to do exceedingly well as all sections of the society have voted for our candidates," the BPCC spokesman P C Mishra told reporters here.

Thanking the electorate for turning out in large numbers, he said that the high voting per cent would do wonders to the prospects of the Congress candidates in subsequent five phases of polls.

Some important Congress leaders like the BPCC President Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaiser (Simri Bakhtiyarpur), Lovely Anand (Alamnagar) and Ranjeet Ranjan (Bihariganj) were in fray for the first phase of polling on 47 seats.
