Patna: Ruling JD(U) in Bihar today castigated the RJD-LJP combine for alleged "neglect" of minorities and asked Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan why they failed to get the Ranganath Misra Commission report on welfare of minorities implemented despite being "powerful" union ministers.

"The RJD-LJP combine have a long history of using minorities merely for the purpose of votes... why they failed to get the commission's report implemented when they held powerful positions in the Union cabinet for five years," JD(U) general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Ali Anwar told reporters.

He said the promise of sops for minorities in the manifesto of the combine was "nothing but an eyewash".

"Both Prasad and Paswan are in the habit of befooling and cheating minorities at the time of vote," he said adding "the minorities would not be influenced by such political gimmicks."

Anwar claimed that the NDA took a number of steps for uplift of minorities in Bihar during the past five years.

He said the NDA government in Bihar took steps like fencing of 3500 graveyards, appointing Urdu teachers, giving recognition to 2450 Madarsas and distributing cycles free of cost to students from minority communities, besides releasing grants worth Rs 108 crore to Madarsa teachers and increasing their dearness allowance by more than 300 per cent.

The NDA government also got the cases related to Bhagalpur riots reopened and the guilty were brought to justice, he added.
