12-year-old boy abducted in Bihar

In yet another case of kidnapping in Bihar, a 12-year-old boy was abducted while he was on his way home from school in Motihari district, police said on Monday.

Patna: In yet another case of kidnapping in Bihar, a 12-year-old boy was abducted while he was on his way home from school in Motihari district, police said on Monday. The boy`s family has received ransom calls demanding Rs 20 lakh.

Nandan Kumar, son of North Bihar Grameen Bank manager Raghunandan Ram, was abducted on Saturday. Police had earlier refused to register the case, but now say that search operations are on.

Earlier this month, a report of kidnapping of four schoolboys had created quite a panic in the police administration. Later, body of Rohit Kumar, a Class 12 student of a public school here, was recovered by the police.

Understandably, parents of school-going children are losing sleep over the issue.

"The fresh abduction spree is giving sleepless nights to parents, teachers and school authorities as several abducted schoolboys were killed during the last five years," Arunesh Sharma, a father of two school-going children, said here.

According to statistics compiled by the state crime record bureau, 248 cases of kidnapping were registered with different police stations in the month of January.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had claimed during the poll campaign last year that kidnappings had come down drastically during his rule.
