Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
today said 40 lakh illiterate women were made literate under
the `Mukhyamantri Akshar Anchal Yojana` by two lakh teachers
across the state.

While addressing a government function here on the
occasion of Teachers` Day, Kumar said these two lakh teachers
would be given Rs 1000 and citation letter for their services.

He also announced that the government would provide Rs
250 annually to all the students between three and six years
going to anganwadi schools and Rs 500 to students from class
three to class five for purchase of uniform.

Teachers of university and college would also be
honoured along with those of schools on Teachers` Day from
next year, Kumar said.

Kumar said he had been working for the development of
the state ever since he took over the reins of the state in
November 2005 but the opposition leaders do not see any
development.

He said while 25 lakh children had been out of school
before NDA came to power in 2005, the figure has now come down
to 7.70 lakh.

Kumar announced that B Ed course would be introduced
in all the constituent colleges and honoured three teachers of
the state.
