Around 400 NDRF personnel deployed for Chhath

Around 400 personnel of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed at different ghats of Ganga here for protection of devotees on the occasion of Chhath that started today.

Patna: Around 400 personnel of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed at different ghats of Ganga here for protection of devotees on the occasion of Chhath that started today.

"Around 400 personnel have been deployed at different ghats and also on boats for patrolling in the Ganga during four days of Chhath festival starting today," Commandant of 9th battlion of NDRF Vijay Sinha said in a statement.

All teams of NDRF are equipped with life saving equipment and have trained divers carrying deep diving sets, he said.

Sinha said paramedical and nursing assistants carrying medicines formed part of the NDRF teams.

Medical camps have been set up at Gandhi ghat, Gai Ghat and Digha ghat in which NDRF medicial officers would be present. In addition, two water ambulances would do regular patrolling in Ganga during the occasion, he said.

Sinha said NDRF jawans would control devotees from breaking barricades put up in the river with the help of mega phone and the whistle.

On the directions of NDRF headquarters at New Delhi, teams have been put into services in Patna, Vaishali, Buxar, Bhojpur and Supual for the festival.
