Patna: A CBI court on Friday rejected the bail
application of journalist Navlesh Pathak who is a co-accused
in Purnia BJP MLA Rajkishore Kesari murder case.
Special CBI Magistrate Krishna Kumar rejected the
application of Pathak seeking regular bail in connection with
the case after CBI counsel opposed the petition.
Both Rupam Pathak, accused of stabbing to death the
senior BJP MLA, and Navlesh Pathak are lodged in high-security
Beur jail in connection with the case.
CBI had on April two filed a charge sheet against
Rupam Pathak, a school teacher, in the court of Special
Judicial Magistrate Krishna Kumar under section 304 (culpable
homicide not amounting to murder).
Pathak allegedly stabbed to death Kesari at his house
at Purnia on January 4, 2011. The supporters of Kesari then
mercilessly beat up Rupam before handing her over to police.
Amid growing clamour for a probe by the CBI into the
killing of BJP MLA Keshri, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
had on January 8 recommended that the high-profile case be
investigated by the agency.
The move followed a written request made by Deputy
Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who, three days after giving
a clean chit to the deceased legislator, had taken a U-turn
and urged Kumar to order a CBI probe into the case "as people
would doubt the Bihar police findings since Keshri was a
ruling party MLA."
