Patna: Accusing the Opposition for creating
"confusion" and "unnecessary controversy" over the draft of
the proposed Lokayukta Bill, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister S K
Modi on Tuesday said the state government was firm in its resolve
to constitute an effective and strong Lokayukta.
Bihar government would consider all suggestions and
opinions on the issue of Lokayukta and had called an all-party
meeting here on November 26 as it was irrevocably committed to
constituting an independent and strong Lokayukta, Modi told
The minister rubbished apprehensions being raised by the
Opposition over appointment of Lokayukta and said out of the
seven-member committee proposed to appoint it, only two would
be representatives of the state government.
"Thus there is no chance of the government of having
any control over the Lokayukta," he said.
A three-member ministerial committee headed by him would
fine tune the draft for Lokayukta in Bihar before presenting
the bill in the upcoming Winter session of the legislature.
"We are framing the bill within the purview of the statutory
and legislative limits ... Our bill will be practical."
"Bihar does not want to enact a legislation which it
would fail to implement," Modi said.
