Patna: The Bihar government on Wednesday rubbished BJP leader Sushil Modi's allegations of financial irregularities in replacing transformers under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RMGVY) and charged him with "deliberately putting spanner in development work."
"Sushil Modi has a weak mathematics... Without going into the details of awarding tenders for replacement of transformers in some districts, he made allegations with political interest," state Energy Minister Bijendra Yadav told reporters.
The minister alleged Sushil Modi did it "deliberately" and with "malice" and said such action could warrant lawful action.
However, when asked him if the state government was contemplating any lawful action against Sushil Modi, Yadav did not give any clear answer and said only if the allegations were backed with evidence, the state government would have no hesitation in getting it probed by the vigilance department.
Sushil Modi had yesterday alleged the state government had incurred a loss of Rs 37 crore by awarding a tender for Rs 96 crore on turnkey basis for replacement of transformers and other electricity equipment under the RMGVY in some districts.
Alleging that contracts were awarded in gross violation of rules, he had said suppliers were asked to supply the equipment at high rates so that the ruling party could seek funds from them during the coming Assembly polls.
Demanding a CAG probe, Sushil Modi had sought cancellation of all contracts and said if elected to power in the Assembly elections, BJP would review all such contracts.
Energy Secretary Pratyaya Amrit also rebutted the allegations and told reporters that the turn-key basis of awarding tenders was in accordance with the guidelines of the Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, a central government enterprise.
The same rule was followed in all states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Amrit added.
