Patna: Over 80,000 lawyers across Bihar stayed away from work for the third day on Thursday in response to the five-day strike called by Bihar State Bar Council opposing the idea of evening courts.

Council chairman B P Sharma claimed that the strike was total and paralysed work in Patna High Court as well as subordinate courts.

The Bar council general body had denounced the continuation of the evening courts despite repeated requests.

The apex body of advocates are also protesting violation of notification and transfer of cases to evening courts without consent of the contesting party.

The council will meet presidents and general secretaries of all bar associations in the state on February 19 to take stock of the situation, official sources said.
