Patna: Senior BJP leader and Bihar minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday demanded raising the salaries and allowances of MLAs and MLCs in the state.

"There is necessity of effecting hike in salaries and allowances of legislators of the two houses of Bihar legislature", Singh, the state`s animal and fishery resources minister, told reporters here.
Justifying the demand, he said there are several other states where legislators were receiving higher salaries and allowances than Bihar.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar too was sensitive to the issue, he said adding that he expects the state government to take a favourable decision on this.
Singh supported the scrapping of funds for local area development schemes for MLAs and MLCs in Bihar and said the Centre should take similar steps to abolish fund allocation under MPLAD schemes.
