Muzaffarpur: Four Maoists were on Monday arrested while they were allegedly making plans to extort levy from under-construction infrastructure projects.

Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Ranjit Kumar Mishra said raids were conducted during the early hours on the basis of information provided by hardcore Maoist Dasai Ram, who was arrested in Motihari in East Champaran district yesterday.

"The arrested Maoists used to extort levy or protection money from under-construction infrastructure projects in the area, and were making plans to do so when our teams surrounded them," Mishra said.

The SSP added that the four had been involved in an attack on the office of a construction company engaged in making a bridge between Sahebganj and Gopalganj in the district.

They had also been involved in blasting railway tracks between Chakia and Mahesi a few months ago in which a goods train had derailed, the police said.
