Boat capsizes in Garhi dam in Bihar's Jamui district, six dead

At least six people, including three children, were killed and five others went missing after a boat carrying them capsized in the Garhi dam in Bihar`s Jamui district, reports stated on Saturday.

Jamui: At least six people, including three children, were killed and five others went missing after a boat carrying them capsized in the Garhi dam in Bihar`s Jamui district, reports stated on Saturday.

According to police, 16 people were on the boat when it capsized in the dam in Maoist affected Jamui, about 200 km from here.

"Six bodies were recovered from the dam by villagers and five others are missing," a police officer said.

Police divers and a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also been pressed into service to locate and rescue the rest of the people, as per reports.

Meanwhile, Jamui district magistrate Shashikant Tiwari said, "We will rescue all those who drowned, will extend all possible help," ANI reported.

He also announced a relief amount of Rs One lakh fifty thousand to each family of the dead victims.
