Chargesheet filed against 399 people for poll-related offences

As many as 399 people, including 62 candidates for Mukhiya and Zila Parishad members, have been chargesheeted in connection with the cases lodged against them for poll-related offences during the Bihar panchayat polls.

62 candidates for Mukhiya and Zila Parishad members, have been
chargesheeted in connection with the cases lodged against them
for poll-related offences during the Bihar panchayat
polls, a top police official said on Wednesday.

The chargesheets have been filed in the courts against
399 persons who were arrested and charged with poll-related
violence and other malpractices during the panchayat polls,
Director General of Police (DGP) Neelmani said.
The accused persons will be put on speedy trial to
ensure their conviction within a time-frame, he said.

Among other preventive measures for a free and fair
panchayat polls, the police have seized 5898 cartridges and
65888 licenced weapons and arrested 25,667 persons, Neelmani
said.
Besides, a cash amount of Rs 34 lakhs and 1.72 lakh
litres liquor have been seized from across the state during
seven phases of the panchayat polls that commenced on April 20
last, the DGP said.
