Jamui: Security personnel on Monday further intensified search operations to trace seven panchayat polling officials who went missing after Naxalites triggered a landmine blast, killing one person in Bihar`s Jamui district, officials said.

Jamui District Magistrate Manish Kumar said besides the CRPF, Special Task Force of the state police were engaged in the operations to locate the poll personnel believed to have been abducted by the Maoists.

The officials were on their way yesterday to conduct panchayat elections at two polling stations when the Maoists detonated a landmine on a road at Mariam hillock, Kumar said.

The landmine blast left driver Arun Mandal and a poll official Surya Narayan Yadav injured, he said, adding that the two were taken to a hospital where Mandal died.

The missing polling team members were identified as Naresh Kumar Sao, Nageshwar Mehta, Dheeraj Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Kapildeo Kumar, Shyam Deo Verma and Om Prakash Thakur.

The ninth and penultimate phase of panchayat elections was held in Bihar yesterday.
