Patna: Alleging large scale corruption in
the implementation for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural
Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in Bihar, the Congress on Tuesday
said that the central flagship programme had achieved only 27
per cent target in the state.
"Prevalence of rampant corruption in the
implementation of MNREGA in Bihar has been a known fact," the
state unit Congress president Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaiser
said at a function to mark fifth anniversary of the launch of
popular rural employment generation scheme.
Unlike the states like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh
where the implementation of MNREGA has been successful in
terms of generation of rural employment, the NDA government in
Bihar has failed to productively use the funds meant for
generating guaranteed employment for rural poor for 100 days
every year, he said.
The success rate of Bihar in terms of MNREGA has been
an abysmal 27 per cent due to corruption at all levels in its
implementation, Kaiser said.
The Congress leader said that his party will soon
launch an awareness campaign among the people to apprise
them about the Centre`s 16 welfare schemes, including MNREGA.
