Biharsarif: Alleging candidates were being
picked up in an arbitrary fashion for seven assembly seats in
Nalanda district, a group of Congress workers on Friday set on
fire the District Congress Committee (DCC).

The disgruntled workers stormed the DCC office,
located at Rajendra Ashram compound, and vandalised furniture
before setting them on fire, police said.
By the time Deputy SP Mustaqib Ahmed and SDO Amresh
Kumar Amar reached the spot, the entire property at the DCC
office was totally gutted.

The Congress workers expressed resentment for giving
ticket to Vashundhara Devi from Harnaut assembly seat claiming
she was still a ruling JD(U) card holder and member of the
20-point programme implementation committee.

Captain Shahid and Bablu Kumar, aspirants of ticket
from Harnaut seat, alleged that the selected candidates had
bribed senior leaders for tickets.
The duo further charged the Congress leadership with
being dictated by the JD(U) in selection of candidates for
assembly polls apparently to bolster the electoral prospects
of the ruling party nominees.

DCC President Ashok Kumar Singh said a case will be
lodged with the police in connection with the acts of
vandalism and arson.
