Convicts` names in Bihar home dept website

Bihar govt has posted in a website names of convicts in the state and this will deter people from committing crimes.

Patna: Bihar government has posted in a website names of convicts in the state and this will deter
people from committing crimes, state Chief Minister Nitish
Kumar said on Sunday.

After launching `Civil Consequences of Crime`, a new
section in the state home department`s website where the name,
father`s name, address and details of the case were posted,
this was another step to check crime in Bihar.

Convicted persons would have to bear the civil
consequences of their crimes, Kumar said adding the posting of
details of convicted persons on the Internet would deter other
people from taking to crimes and help improve the overall law
and order situation in the state.

Kumar said the website, http://home.bih.nic.in, also
contained information about quashing of appeals by the
convicted persons in various courts.

The convicted persons would be denied arms licence and
government contract for public works, the chief minister said
adding the website would help identify applications made by
people of criminal background for arms licences and contracts.

He said his government has taken a number of steps
like setting up special court for speedy trial so that
criminals could not escape punishment.

Due to the steps taken by the NDA government since
assuming power in 2005, the state`s image has been transformed
as a peaceful and law abiding society much in contrast to the
`reign of crime` that prevailed earlier.

Speaking on the occasion, IG (Prison) Anand Kishore
said anyone could visit the website and view the details of
1450 convicted persons lodge in the jails of Bihar.
