Couple faces the brunt of Khap in Bihar

In a rerun of `Khap panchayat justice` in Bihar, a couple of East Champaran district had their heads tonsured.

Motihari: In a rerun of `Khap panchayat
justice` in Bihar, a couple of Mahua village in East Champaran
district had their heads tonsured, with the village elders
declaring their relationship as illicit.

The Purainia Panchayat ordered tonsuring the head of
Sonalal Rai (22) while cutting off the hair of Pramila Devi
(35) on Wednesday last after pronouncing their relationship as
illegitimate, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganesh Kumar said
quoting from the text of a FIR lodged by the woman.
In a virtual rerun of the Khap panchayat-type justice
in Haryana and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, the couple were
then made to walk through the village roads amid a crowd.

The traumatised woman later lodged an FIR against 12
identified persons and 20 unidentified ones under various
sections of the IPC for heaping abuse and insult on her, Kumar
said.
The Purania Panchayat`s Mukhia Subhash Prasad Yadav
had been arrested on charge of causing mental agony to the
couple, while raids were on to apprehend the other accused,
the SP said.
