Court begins examining witnesses in case against Nitish

A Bihar court on Saturday started recording statement of witnesses in a criminal case filed against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister SK Modi and five top bureaucrats in an alleged multi-crore rupees liquor scam.



Patna: A Bihar court on Saturday started recording statement of witnesses in a criminal case filed against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister SK Modi and five top bureaucrats in an alleged multi-crore rupees liquor scam.

Chief Judicial Magistrate S P Singh recorded the statement of one of the witnesses Satyendra Singh, a friend of Nonu Singh, who had filed the criminal case on June 5.

The petitioner, a resident of Belhari village in Gaya district, has accused Kumar, Modi and others of "irregular award" of tender for liquor sale and supply to black-listed
firms, causing loss to the state exchequer.

Singh fixed July 7 as the next date for recording
statement of other witnesses, including former excise
minister Jamshed Asraf.

Those impleaded in the case, included Chief Secretary
Anup Mukherji, former principal Secretary to the chief
minister RCP Singh, former excise commissioner N
Vijaylakshmi, secretary to chief minister S Sidhartha,
Finance Commissioner, District Magistrate Patna, and District
Magistrate Kaimur.
