Patna: With five more deaths, the toll in the
powerful earthquake today mounted to seven in Bihar, even as
there were reports of damage to several structures in the
While Darbhanga alone accounted for four deaths, one each
was killed in Nawada, Nalanda and Bhagalpur districts,
official reports reaching the state headquarters said.
One woman died of cardiac arrest as she tried to scamper
to safety after leaving her house at Birani village in
Darbhanga, In-charge of Department of Disaster Management in
the district, Balmukund Prasad said.
Another woman drowned after she jumped into a pond when
she felt the tremor at Usri village, while a man was killed
when part of a wall fell on him as he tried to move out of his
house at Kamtaul area in Darbhanga district, officials said.
A 65-year-old man died of cardiac arrest as panic spread
at a market in Buddhu chak in Bhagalpur district yesterday,
they said, adding that an elderly woman died when a `kutcha`
wall caved in due to the quake at Orhanpur village in Nawada
A five-year-old girl had died after a wall collapsed on
her in Nalanda`s Sabanhua village, they said.
According to another official report from Darbhanga, a
youth died of head injury after dashing against a wall while
running out of his house on experiencing the tremor.
