Patna: Dissident Janata Dal (United), MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh today disapproved the ongoing signature campaign being carried out by his party demanding grant of a special category status to Bihar by the Centre.

The signature campaign being launched by the JD(U) seeking a special category status for Bihar was unwarranted in the context that the Centre has been generous in allocation of its funds for development works and welfare measures, Singh told reporters here.

The Chief Minister should himself come forward and explain to the people as to how much funds the Centre has allocated to the state since he took over power in 2005 and the revenues generated by the state government for carrying out development activities, the dissident JD(U)leader said.

Lashing out at the Chief Minister for adopting a confrontationist approach towards the Centre vis-a-vis the signature campaign, Singh asked the latter to explain his government's "failure" to improve the production of electricity and additional of medical and engineering colleges in the state even as the state government was on the verge of completing its term in the office.
