A fierce encounter took place between police and Maoists in Sakaul jungle of Munger district, but there was no report of injury on either side today, police said.

The ultras fired upon the policemen during a combing
operation forcing the cops to fire over 125 rounds,
Superintendent of Police, P Kannan said.

Police seized a rifle, 27 rounds of ammunition, five
detonators, one carbine spring and Maoist literature from the
site of the encounter, he said.

The cops destroyed three watch towers and four bunkers
of the ultras in the forest, Kannan said.

The combing operation was carried out to arrest those
rebels who were involved in the killing of six persons in a
village under Dharhara police station area in Munger district
on July two last, the SP said.
