Bhagalpur: Five hardcore Maoists were Thursday arrested by Special Task Force of the Bihar police from near an overbridge at Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a place near the overbridge and captured the ultras identified as Sriram Yadav, Vijay Yadav, Vishal Kumar, Chandan Kumar and Vilas Kumar, wanted in connection with several operations carried out by the proscribed CPI (Maoists) in Bihar recently.

The STF personnel also seized two pistols, a motorcycle, a jeep, 25 rounds of SLR ammunition, besides some live cartridges from them, they said.

On the inputs provided by the naxalites in course of interrogation, STF team raided Dulhar village in neighbouring Munger district and unearthed a mini-gun factory.

They arrested three persons, including Subodh Rai, from the spot, the officials said.

Two pistols, several semi-finished weapons, gun-manufacturing equipment and a machine were also seized during the operation.
