Incessant rains in the catchment areas have caused rivers flowing through north Bihar to swell and flood parts of West Champaran, Saharsa and Kishaganj districts.

Patna: Incessant rains in the catchment areas have caused rivers flowing through north Bihar to swell and flood parts of West Champaran, Saharsa and Kishaganj districts.

Some of the rivers flowing through the area have crossed the danger mark.

Reports reaching here said flood waters have inundated several blocks of West Champaran district following release of water from Valmikinagar barrage. Several villages in Saharsa and Kishanganj were also submerged.
The floodwaters of Gandak and Bhapsa rivers completely submerged a girls school at Harna Tad in Bagaha sub-division.

About 100 students were evacuated from the school hostel by the administration as the floods, which came yesterday, washed away a bamboo bridge connecting the school building.
The flood waters also inundated Valmiki tiger project and two deer were rescued by villagers of Piprasi and Madhubani and handed over to forest staff, its director-cum-conservator Santosh Kumar Tiwary said, adding watch was being kept on the the movement of wild animals.

Narkatiaganj sub-divisional magistrate said flood waters had entered Sikta railway station on Thursday night.

State Water Resources Department minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said, "The situation is well under control and relief measures have already been initiated in the affected districts."

Choudhary briefing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar about the situation said all flood fighting schemes were complete and only some people were affected.

Kumar reviewed the overall flood situation in the state last evening and asked WRD principal secretary Afzal Amanullah to ensure complete safety of embankments and immediate relief to flood victims.

Instructions were given to all field officers and engineers to maintain constant vigil on embankments and send status report to the government on a day-to-day basis.

Disaster Management Minister Renu Kumari, chief secretary Navin Kumar, development commissioner A K Sinha, disaster management principal secretary Vyasji and other officers were present at the meeting.
