Four dead, two hospitalised of suspected food poisoning in Bihar

Four members of a family died, while two others were hospitalised in serious condition during the wee hours of Thursday in a suspected case of food poisoning in Nawada district of Bihar, police said.



Nawada: Four members of a family died, while two others were hospitalised in serious condition during the wee hours of Thursday in a suspected case of food poisoning in Nawada district of Bihar, police said.

Narhat Station House Officer (SHO) Yogendra Jha said the family had celebrated Makar Sankranti yesterday and eaten traditional food of dahi-chura (curd and flattened rice) and 'khichidi'.

"Four of the family died at home, while two persons have been hospitalised in precarious condition at Nawada Sadar Hospital. Their condition is said to be deteriorating," Jha said.

The SHO said the deceased have been identified as Krishna Yadav (58), his wife Dhano Devi (53) and their grandchildren Sumit kumar (3)and Priya (2) of Kasiadih village.

Those who are hospitalised are Amrit Yadav (27) and Anita Devi (23). They are the son and daughter-in-law of Krishna.

"The deaths could be because of contaminated food consumption, but foul play could not be ruled out. We are investigating the case to find out the exact reason behind the incident," Jha added.

Meanwhile, samples of food eaten by the family has been sent for forensic tests, while the dead bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
