Girls to speak for empowerment in Bihar

A girl each from 243 assembly constituencies of Bihar will articulate their views on empowerment of women at a `parliament` session to be held in Patna.

Patna: A girl each from 243 assembly
constituencies of Bihar will articulate their views and
suggestions on empowerment of women at a `parliament` session
for them to be held in Patna on January 24.

The parliament for and by the girls has been conceived
to give them exposure about the parliamentary system akin to
the parliament and state legislatures where the elected
representatives speak for their constituents, Principal
Secretary (HRD) Anjani Kumar Singh said on Monday.

The selected teen-aged girls would be given training
for three days from January 21-23 to hone their oratorical
skills and gender-related issues so that they would be able to
articulate their views on the subject, he said.

The suggestions articulated by them at the parliament
to be hosted by the HRD (Gender section), women empowerment
section of the social welfare department and the UNICEF, will
be incorporated by the state government in the schemes for
empowerment and development of the women, Singh said.

Stating that the parliament would be held in the
legislative council premise on January 24, he said the inputs
of the girls will help the administration streamline various
schemes.

Singh said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other
dignitaries have been invited to attend the girls` parliament.
