JD(U) students wing demands students` union polls

The ruling Janata Dal(U)`s students wing on Tuesday urged Governor Devanand Konwar to notify the students` union polls in the higher academic institutions of Bihar.

Patna: The ruling Janata Dal(U)`s
students wing on Tuesday urged Governor Devanand Konwar to
notify the students` union polls in the higher academic
institutions of Bihar in order to enable lakhs of students to
play an active role in the affairs of their institutions.

The students must be allowed to play an active role in
the functioning of the higher academic institutions through a
democratic process of elections of the students` union, the JD
(U)`s student wing`s state unit president Ranjan Kumar told
reporters here.
It was unfortune that the students unions in Bihar`s
universities and colleges were being run by co-opting their
leaders on the basis of selection and not through election as
should be the case, he said.
Urging the Governor to notify the election for the
students` unions in the universities and colleges, in his
capacity as the chancellor, Kumar said the students have a
right to elect their office bearers and participate in the
functioning of their institutions.

The JD(U) leader said that he expected the process of
democratic election of the students` union to commence soon
and for that his outfit has imparted training to 200 students
for spreading the ruling party`s programmes among the
students.

Our student activities will soon spread among the
universities and colleges and seek to woo the students in the
party-fold, Kumar said, adding his party will also organize
educational, social and extra-curricular activities in the
higher academic institutions soon.
